Context: Leanne lives on Buruburongal land in the Hawkesbury near Clarendon Station. The Clarendon landscape is where Dharug people have lived for thousands of years, connecting with the environment in a very spiritual and wonderful way. This work brings together the trio’s shared connection, love of the environment and a mutual desire for both truth telling and healing. Their artistic response listens and acknowledges the hurts experienced by Dharug people, by coming together to learn and heal Community and Country. This is the place of the sand (Marrang ngurra) where an abundance of resources grew on the river flats. The history of colonisation of the Hawkesbury is a terrible one for the Dharug. Research of this period by Darug Custodian Aboriginal Corporation and Grace Karskins can be found via the Dyarubbin Digital Story Map.
